Laodicea “Dicey” Langston Springfield, born in 1766 in South Carolina’s Ninety Six District, is one of the most celebrated women of the Revolutionary era. Though she spent most of her life in what is now Travelers Rest, her courageous actions during the Revolution have earned her enduring admiration nationwide for nearly 250 years.

The Dicey Langston statue honors this remarkable local heroine. Visitors of all ages are invited to touch the sculpture, study her expression, and imagine what she may have been thinking and feeling in her moment of bravery. It offers a powerful opportunity to be inspired by her courage, valor, and steadfast commitment to the American ideals of freedom.

Also, in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of South Carolina’s decisive role in the American Revolution victory the Travelers Rest Historical Society will host Living History exhibits, Revoluti0nary-era Craft demonstrations, Period Music on the porches of the Spring Park Inn, free walk-through tours of the Inn including a special America 250 Exhibit, and 1770s era children games of Pickup-Sticks, Jacks. Tops, Sack Races, and the “Graces” ribbon hoop game!

The festivities will continue at Travelers Rest City Hall at 2:00 pm with guest speakers.
